The Dalai Lama has been bestowed Liberty model for his efforts to promote compassion and human rights around the world. The award comes with a $100,000 cash prize.
Though the spiritual leader was earlier slated to attend the function he had to cancel his appearance at the Philadelphia ceremony due to health reasons.
At the National Constitution Centre ceremony which was held on 26th evening, actor Richard Gere addressed the Dalai Lama as one of the great ones  and said  “He  (Dalai Lama) wants nothing more than our happiness, which is ultimately us understanding the nature of things and how deeply interconnected we all are.”
In a video message Dalai Lama regretted not being able to attend the ceremony and said he was deeply touched by recognition of his little service to humanity.
