The One who can protect you against all odds and steer you through the turbulent ocean of life is your Guru. God delegates this task ONLY to Guru who is one with Him/Her That! Let there be strict self assessment of finding how much clinging to your false vanity and ego you developed during the day or to what extent you could unfetter yourself from false clinging, and surrender to the self illumined light of your Self the Eternal Guru within.
